Reunited and it feels so good: Real-life best friends Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox appeared together in Cougar Town last night

They were two of the most popular television actresses of their time when they appeared together on 90s TV show Friends.

And now Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston have been reunited once again on Courteney's hit US series Cougar Town.

In the premiere of the show's second season in America last night, Aniston was introduced as Courteney's character Jules's new-age therapist Glenn.

Things started well for Jules and Glenn, who struck up a close friendship after Julies decided to get some therapy following her son Travis's departure to college and doubts about the relationship she is in with her neighbour Grayson.

But, as is often the case, Glenn wasn't quite what she seemed to be.

After visiting Jules' house and sharing a tender moment on the porch, the pair's friendship goes from bad to worse and results in Jules calling Glenn a 'nut job' and Glenn firing Jules as her patient.

What's going on? Things started well for the pair, but didn't continue that way

And Aniston earnt rave reviews for her role in the episode, called All Mixed Up, with one US reviewer calling her 'hilariously wily' and another praising her 'impeccable timing and delivery'.

The positive reception Aniston's guest appearance received has led to reports that she may well appear again in a future episodeof the hit comedy.

Executive producer Bill Lawrence said: 'We're very intentionally implying that it's a therapist Courteney has been using for a while, and we're certainly not going to make it like they'll never see each other again. So I'm crossing my fingers that if she has a good time it'll happen again.

Having a laugh: The Friends looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying themselves

Aniston's appearance on the show is the second time one of Cox's former Friends co-stars has featured in the programme - Lisa Kudrow made an appearance in a previous episode as a dermatologist.

The three women appeared together in Friends for ten years between 1994 and 2004.
The first time Aniston and Cox reunited on screen was in 2007, when Aniston made a guest appearance in an episode of Cox's short-lived show, Dirt, which was set in the world of celebrity journalism.

Furry friend: Jules started to become worried about Glenn's mental health when she saw her treating her dog like a real person

In their scenes the two women had a catfight before sharing a lesbian kiss.

And as well as being co-stars, Cox and Aniston are actually best friends in real life, and are often seen out in Los Angeles together with Cox's husband David and daughter Coco.

Talking recently about their friendship, Aniston said: 'From the first day we met, she just dragged me outside and started telling me about her relationships. She’s the all around friend and the ultimate loyalist.

Fighting: The pair's friendship didn't last too long and they ended up arguing

'She’s not threatened by women, and she doesn’t have to throw her womanliness all over you to show you what kind of woman she is. She’s comfortable and that makes you feel comfortable.

'When we met for the first time Courteney took me aside at once and started talking about relationships with men.'

Cox added: 'We’ve known each other nearly 15 years now, we grew up together emotionally.

'I lost my father, Jen got divorced, and I had a baby. We’ve been through huge life changes together. I can be myself around her.'
