Motherly instincts: Christina Aguilera with her son Max during a trip to Blackman Cruz in Hollywood

Last week we saw Christina Aguilera going back to her raunchy best in the video for her new song Not Myself Tonight.

Fast forward a few days and the singer was back to her motherly guise as she took son Max shopping at Blackman Cruz.

The 29-year-old singer took her two-year-old out with her as she shopped with husband Jordan Bratman at the arts store on North Highland Avenue in Hollywood

In total contrast to her recent video, Christina was covered up with a black hooded top over her T-shirt, grey leggings with black knees pads and a pair of ballet flats.

While son Max, who appears to be taking on his father's characteristics more than his mother's, looked ultra cute with a children's trilby, a colourful T-shirt, jeans and Nike trainers.

A well-known art collector, Christina would have no doubt had a field day at the shop, which specialises in furniture, antiques, art and home interiors.

Prices for the goods found at the store are said to be 'stratospheric'.

For instance a nickel plated bronze skull lamp will set you back $2,700, while a
studded bronze plated mirror, 42" in diameter, costs $6,200.

In 2006 Aguilera is said to have picked up some work by notorious British street artist Banksy, spending £25,000 on three pieces.

Previously talking about her love of art - especially nude paintings and sculptures - Miss Aguilera told People magazine: 'We’re big art collectors so there’s lots of female nudes around the house.'

And she defended having such risque work around her young son, saying: 'It’s something to be respected and seen as a thing of beauty. I think it’s only weird whenever you shame it and raise your child to look at it in a weird light.'

She also spoke to Access Hollywood this week about juggling her roles as both a mother and a sex symbol, saying: 'Mama still has to be me. I never claimed to be a cookie-cutter soccer mom. That’s all good for some people. Not for me.

'[Max is] going to learn to respect the fact that women are allowed to express themselves and not feel shameful about their bodies or their sexuality.'

She also revealed that her son's two favorite singers are Rihanna and, of course, his mother.

Christina admitted: 'He’s really into Rihanna. And he does say, ‘Put in mama’s song, put in mama’s song.’ And then he goes – ‘Go cazy! Go cazy!’ It’s so cute.'
